Ashley MacIsaac hails from Creignish, Cape Breton and has been exposed to the Cape Breton style of fiddling since he was born. His father Angus MacIsaac played frequently around the house and often with the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association. Ashley was very young when he started stepdancing and was only nine years old when he started formal lessons with Stan Chapman, a noted musician for his teaching who taught by ear and also by note. In addition to playing great tunes on the fiddle, Ashley is also a proficient piano player. He has played with many fiddlers all over the island and world, in his many years of performing.
Ashley has also performed all over the world with many influential musicians such as Buddy MacMaster and Paul Simon. By working with a variety of musicians, he used these influences to make his music bigger and better for the rest of the world to hear. Whether Ashley is playing in a huge stadium, rocking his way around the stage, or in a small hall in Cape Breton, there is no questions that Ashley is one of the best musicians to come out of Cape Breton.
